Wauwatosa Rides, Booked Ahead

Wauwatosa is one of the busiest pickup and destination points in our Milwaukee service area, and the reason is straightforward: the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center campus sits inside the city limits at 92nd and Wisconsin, and a large share of Southeastern Wisconsin’s specialist care happens there.

BriteLift arranges wheelchair accessible transportation throughout Wauwatosa — from homes near Hart Park and the Village, from the apartment and assisted living communities along Mayfair Road and North Avenue, and from the residential streets north of Capitol Drive. Trips run to medical appointments, to Mayfair Mall, to family gatherings, to the airport, and anywhere else an accessible vehicle is the thing standing between someone and going.

Getting to the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center Campus

The campus at 9200 W. Wisconsin Avenue takes in Froedtert Hospital, Children’s Wisconsin and the Medical College of Wisconsin, along with the clinics and cancer center buildings around them. It is large, the buildings connect at several levels, and the entrance you want is rarely the one you see first from the road.

Give us the building, not just the hospital

“Froedtert” covers a lot of ground. The clinic name on your appointment letter, the building and the floor are what let us route the drop-off to the correct door instead of leaving you to cross a campus in a wheelchair in February. Have the letter with you when you call. If you are not sure which building your appointment is in, our guide to rides on the Froedtert campus lists the main buildings with their street addresses and which entrance a van can actually use.

Patient drop-off

Froedtert Hospital directs patient pick-up and drop-off to Level 2 inside Parking 1. The campus has had ongoing construction with access routes changing, so we confirm the current drop-off point when your ride is scheduled rather than assuming last month’s arrangement still holds. ADA parking is available in the Froedtert Hospital Parking – Blue structure on 92nd Street for anyone driving separately to meet you.

Build in time

Between the drive, the drop-off and the distance from the door to the check-in desk, a campus appointment needs more margin than a neighborhood clinic. We schedule pickup earlier than it feels like you need.

Coming in from Waukesha County

A large share of Regional Medical Center appointments start in Brookfield, New Berlin, Menomonee Falls or the city of Waukesha. Before you book a private ride, check Waukesha County’s RideLine at 262-548-7848 — the Froedtert/MCW main campus is one of the few out-of-county destinations it will take with no prior approval, and it costs a fraction of what we do. When RideLine does not fit — an evening or weekend appointment, a time that moved this morning, a non-medical trip, or a rider who was never certified — that is when to call us. Our Waukesha County guide lays out exactly where that line falls.

The trip home

If you are being discharged, or coming out of a procedure, call 414-716-1212 when you have a realistic time. Discharge times move, and a return ride booked around the real time works better than one booked around the estimate given that morning.

Three Ways to Book

For a one-off appointment, the BriteLift app is usually the quickest route. It quotes the fare before you confirm, takes payment on your phone, and shows the vehicle on a map once it is on the way, which is the part that stops people watching at the window. It is free on iPhone and Android.

For several appointments at once, use the online booking form, which accepts more than one date in a single session. Worth knowing if you are scheduling a course of therapy or infusion rather than a single visit.

For a standing weekly booking, or anything with a complication worth explaining to a person, call 414-716-1212.

What Kind of Ride You Can Book

  • Manual wheelchairs, power chairs and scooters. Tell us which when you book. Power chairs need more ramp clearance and floor space, and that determines which vehicle in our network is assigned.
  • Door-through-door help. Your driver can assist from your door to the vehicle, and from the vehicle to the entrance at the other end.
  • A companion seat. Family members and caregivers ride along. Say so when booking.
  • Recurring appointments. Weekly therapy, infusion, or dialysis can be set up as a standing schedule instead of booked one trip at a time.
  • Non-medical trips. A wedding, a restaurant, church, the airport. Accessible transportation gets used for a lot more than hospitals.

    Common Questions

How far ahead should I book?

Two to three days is comfortable for a routine appointment. Early-morning slots and Monday mornings fill fastest. Same-day is sometimes possible, and we will tell you straight whether we can cover it.

Can you wait during a short appointment?

For short appointments a wait-and-return can often be arranged. For anything longer, a scheduled return pickup usually costs less. Ask when you book and we will tell you which makes sense for your appointment.

Can I book more than one appointment at a time?

Yes, through the online booking form, which takes several dates in one session. The app books one trip at a time, so for a run of appointments the form or a phone call is faster.

    Do you go beyond Wauwatosa?

Yes: Milwaukee, West Allis, Greenfield, and across Waukesha County — Brookfield, Elm Grove, Menomonee Falls and New Berlin. See the full service area, or read more about wheelchair accessible transportation in Milwaukee.

    How much does it cost?

Fares are based on distance and the vehicle needed. Enter the trip above for a quote before booking, or call 414-716-1212.
